‘Bare Butt Jeans’ Are a Thing, and We Don’t Know How to Feel

How low can you go?

Just when it seemed like 2017’s denim trends couldn’t get any more out of control (looking at you, “clear knee” jeans), Vetements introduced the craziest new look yet: bare butt jeans. In case you were wondering, it is exactly what it sounds like — jeans that show off your butt or whatever cute underwear you have on underneath.

The zippers actually work, which means you (or someone else) can unzip the pants, revealing whatever you do or don’t have on underneath. You’d think for the outrageous $1,715 price tag, one could expect some more coverage. (And it’s even steeper for a corduroy version, pricing in at $1,985.)

They may not be the most comfortable pair of jeans on the market, but this booty-highlighting look could certainly be considered the most innovative. Even though the pants aren’t exactly ideal for wearing to class or sitting on the subway, the jeans certainly do make a major statement. Plus, worrying about splitting your pants will be a thing of the past.

Vetements is known for its out-there designs, after all, including the $700 sweatpants Justin Bieber may or may not have peed in last month. The brand is a favorite among celebs like Kendall Jenner and Rihanna — both of whom would probably wear these derrière-bearing bottoms and make them look really, really cool.

It got mixed responses. People seem to wear clothes that have holes in them so large that it defeats the purpose of wearing clothes in the first place. Millennials are all for making a statement, but there’s also something called decency.
